Press Associates Program
The FVNB Press Associates Program affords an opportunity for anyone to become a member of the working press, even if you've never attended journalism school, taken a single writing class, or have never been published. If you have ever wanted to attend events of all kinds -- sports events, concerts, shows, and more -- as a member of the press, then write about the experience, and finally see your story published, then the Press Associates Program is for you. The Program is designed not only for writers, but also for photographers
who want to break into the world of press photography, and for budding
photojournalists who wish to both write and photograph.
Although FVNB is actually a features bureau, not primarily concerned with covering "hard news" stories, Associates may choose to gain access to such news events as press conferences, crime or accident scenes, and police or fire emergencies. These can be especially interesting for photographic Associates.
Up to now, the publishing industry forced writers and photographers to "work their way up" before getting a chance to be published by - or even to submit to - many well-known (and well-paying) periodicals. According to tradition, either by schooling or by menial experience, everyone had to "pay their dues". Often, it was that old "catch 22" that you couldn't get published unless you had already been published.
Now, with the FVNB Press Associates Program, anyone can qualify for, and be part of, a network of writers, photographers, editors and other aspiring journalists WITHOUT having to spend all that valuable time "learning the ropes" and money going to school.
HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS
Applicants to the Press Associates Program are required to submit samples of writing or photography for review before being accepted and credentialed. Upon acceptance, Associates may select an annual membership or may become life members. Annual Associates pay $75.00 per year and receive a dated press pass (which must be renewed yearly) as well as the annual Letter of Accreditation (see below). Lifetime membership costs $400.00, and includes an undated-style press pass. The Letter of Accreditation is sent automatically each year.
FVNB Press Associates receive information and instruction in the ethics and responsibilities -- as well as the privileges -- of being a member of the Fifth Estate.
Press Associates may specialize in one, or more than one of several areas of interest including: Future Trends in science, society or other area; Lifestyle reports; various segments of Travel; Entertainment, including sports, music and dance; and Crafts, Fibre Arts and Beading. Associates may choose to create their own area(s) of specialization in addition to these already established.
Future Vision News Bureau is not just another card mill simply churning out ID cards of dubious value. FVNB is recognized by a growing number of event organizers, officials, and even law enforcement agencies. As part of the Press Associates Program, Future Vision News Bureau also offers a verification service that will assist you in getting access to the events and locations you want to write about.
Future Vision News Bureau Press Associates are not prevented from writing for, or submitting to any other periodicals. Indeed, such simultaneous submissions are encouraged. All copyrights remain with the writer/photographer. FVNB provides a way for aspiring journalists to get a "foot in the door" of the trade; the program is not designed to limit the options our Associates have at their disposal, but to assist you in making your way through the world of publishing and The Press.
